Updated technology enables first responders to identify and quantify approximately 5 000 substances in mere seconds for a swift and definitive response

The handheld XplorIR can now determine the concentration of nearly 5 000 chemicals in the surrounding atmosphere

Based on Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, the XplorIR is the first handheld gas/vapor chemical detector designed for first responders and authorities who need quickly to identify gases and their concentrations in a given space or environment.

The easy-to-use device can automatically and accurately identify several compounds simultaneously at the part-per-million (ppm) level, detect chemicals in seconds, and now also quantify them in less than a minute. After detecting a compound, XplorIR monitors and updates the chemical composition of the air stream every four seconds, allowing those operating in the danger zone to reliably identify threats – even in changing environments such as air currents.

The new quantification capability makes XplorIR an invaluable tool for the public safety community.

The 112 call is often caused by an unfamiliar smell detected by a civilian. First responders, such as fire fighters, need technology that can quickly identify an unknown gas/vapor threat and determine its concentration in the surrounding atmosphere. With the XplorIR software, the available information can be used to decide, among other things, the need for personal protection, measures to reduce the threat and the need to clean the environment.

XplorIR support services have also now been enhanced with 908 Devices’ well-known Reachback service to ensure the best possible customer support and troubleshooting.

The XplorIR quantification software package is now available for purchase. Your existing XplorIR systems can be extended to determine concentrations by installing the puchchased quantification software.
